Submission
Guidelines
Depending
on your genre, please follow the instructions below to submit your work for my review. I take personal pride in reading each
submission with a critical eye for its marketability and potential publishing success.

Fiction: Verna is currently accepting young adult, literary and commercial fiction, with a particular fondness for mystery
and thriller. No sci-fi, fantasy, horror or screenplay submissions. Fiction must be completed and edited. In the query, include genre, word count, author info and a brief synopsis,
preferably in the style and voice of the manuscript. Because of the number of fiction queries that I receive and the
length of time to review fiction, I will only request those that most appeal to my interests. You may send the first 5 pages
of your manuscript in the body of an email, not as an attachment.

Non-fiction: Verna is currently accepting:
- Biography/Memoir
- True
Crime
- Business/Economics
- Social History/Culture
- Spirituality/Religion
- Native American Indian
|
- Parenting
- Women's Issues
- Health
- Travel
- Science
|
With the exception of memoir, non-fiction does not need to be completed.
A detailed book proposal with a strong marketing plan and platform is absolutely necessary. I will not look at non-fiction
unless accompanied by a book proposal. Initial query must highlight the marketability and qualifications of the author
in order for me to consider requesting the proposal. The agency does not represent children's
books.
There is never a charge for reading manuscripts.

For all genres:
E-mail queries
only please. No attachments in the query. They will not be opened. No unsolicited manuscripts. Please, NO PHONE calls regarding queries. Indicate whether or not
this is an exclusive or simultaneous submission, or if a partial or full manuscript is out to other agencies or publishers.
Manuscripts will be recycled unless a self-addressed
stamped envelope with adequate postage is enclosed with the submission. Please ensure the return envelope will
adequately hold your manuscript.
I am not particular
as to an e-mail or letter response to your submission. I will accept your preference. If you would like my response in
letter form, then send a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your submission. Use "bell" stamps which are
not affected by a raise in postage rates.
During
conference times, midterms and finals (I am in a MA program), my response could take a number of weeks. Please review
my conference schedule to determine my busy times. Thank you in advance for your patience.
